Well, I Guess Summer is Over?

Shit. How did that happen?

Kids are both back to school. The Frug is frugging busily downstairs. And me? What am I doing? I’m sitting here at my desk, listening to the soothing sounds of Otis licking his empty ballsack, and dicking around on the interwebs. Time for me to do my traditional post-summer Kelly overhaul.

The summer damage is truly exponential. The revenge of summers past, if you will. It seems that no matter how many peels I do, serums I try, creams I buy and forget to use, the sun damage is there. SPF 70, no pool or beach during peak hours, sitting under an umbrella, etc. Pfft. No matter. Freckles, age spots, melasma. And the sagging. That’s a new one. Really enjoying the sagging. Jowls and neck are so pretty, flapping in the wind. I have 3480 browser tabs on “how to firm sagging skin without surgery.” *snorts*

Another thing I’m digging is “eyelid hooding.”  Lots of people have undereye bags and dark circles. My thing is upper eyelid sag. It’s gorgeous!! Makes already porcine eyes look even more sinister! And old!  Let’s not forget OLD. Who has good product reccs for THAT? Come at me!

Sigh.

Happy Fall to All. Blah.

What is Life?

Welp, the Frug and I are having a rare Tuesday night date. Romantic, right??

Nope.

He’s taking me to THIS:

The Minimalists Tour

What the WHAT?

Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus have garnered an audience of more than 2 million readers at TheMinimalists.com, where they write about living a meaningful life with less stuff. They are the bestselling authors of five books and have spoken at Harvard Business School, SXSW, World Domination Summit, and many other organizations, schools, and conferences.

He’s taking me to a seminar about living with less stuff.

Is this an exorcism?

An intervention?

#freekelly

I’m tempted to wear something outrageous like this gold AmEx dress:

Or maybe just something with the Target logo?? Or something a rich old lady would wear on a cruise…covered in rhinestones and wearing alll the jewelry.

Sigh.

Trying to keep an open mind. This is the Frug’s “thing” so I want to be respectful and nonjudgy.

But.

These people are the judgy ones. “Oh, look at us and how frugal we are!  You money spending collectors of things are terrible people!”

Smug bastards.

We maximinalists are all live and let live. “I’m just over here at Sephora and then heading the Nordie’s Half Yearly Sale! Have a nice day!”

I shall report back on this thing later, God willing.

Fall 2013 Tour de Vapid

12:  “Hey Mom!  What did you do in New York?

Me:  “Oh, drank some prosecco, got my nails done, went to a really cool Sephora…

12:  *blank stare*

It was FUN, I swear!

Soooo *bouncy claps* I got my skin analyzed to find THE PERFECT FOUNDATION!

Have you seen the ads?

Sephora-Pantone

How cool does that look?!?!?!

Went to the Sephora in the Meatpacking District. Sadly, there is no Potato District, which would have been appropriate given my skintone AND my love of the potato, right? Found a lovely young man to use the skin IQ thingy on us. He “analyzed” a patch of skin on my forehead, cheek, and neck. It was processed and gave me an ID number of IY06.

Oh, before the Frug freaks, THIS WAS FREE. And there is no obligation to buy anything. Seriously.

That ID number can be entered in store, or on their website, to get a comprehensive list of foundations, tinted moisturizers, etc. geared to MY EXACT SKINTONE. It can be further customized by indicating “lighter” or “darker” for seasonal skin changes or desires, kwim? It’s like a little Kelly’s Skin Database. I can go in and further constrain the list by price point (#frugal), coverage, finish, special ingredients, formulations, etc.

This all made my superficial heart go pitter patter.

I just went online and searched for a medium coverage, radiant finish, liquid formula…I got a list of 8 possibilities. Prices ranging from $20 -$60. The one I think sounds fantastic is the Dolce and Gabbana Foundation Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation (shade Creamy 80 is indicated as MY color IQ match)…then again, the Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup sounds good too. Although I don’t like the sound of the color selected for me — Peach 023. I am NOT Peach…am I?

Next up, going to get a sample of these…screw the laundry!

Honestly, this whole thing has me tingly. Is that wrong??

lol

I am ALIVE!

Long, long, looooonnnnngggg weekend, chicas. Made 2 of the 3 planned events happen, so that’s a win. (fatigue won out and we had to bail on the 3rd party – losers!) I managed to only have 2 mini-cries, not 1 huge snotsobfest, so that’s a win.  And I don’t think I gained any weight despite saying “Hell YES” to some cookies! Win all around!

Side note:  Why are cookies so amazing and gooooood? I think they are a perfect food. Flour, butter, and sugar. If they were deep fried they’d be even better. Fried cookies. OMG! $1,000,000 idea! Wait. Crap, there’s already the fried oreo. *sighs* Never mind.

Anyway, wanted to share some of my current favorite products with you!  It’s been a while because, frankly, most products have been utter failures! (why why why??!!!!!)

Some Kind-A Gorgeous (Benefit) Bought the mini version of this at Sephora. I think I paid $10 for it – regular size is $29) I’ve been using it under my eyes and around my giant-pored nose and I love it!  Very slick going on but stays put.

Stila Perfect and Correct Foundation  Really like this.  Goes on smoothly and blends in without any trouble. I hate oil free foundation that is so “dry” and you have to rub super-fast in order to get it all on before it dries in a clump on your face, kwim?  They had me at this: “Swirl your way to a youthful and luminous complexion!”  Youthful and LUMINOUS?  Yes please!

Ciment Thermique by Kerastase is a life changer for me. It’s basically just a thermal protector for the hair. Simple, right? I never use stuff like this b/c I’m like “the hair is already straw and all of this stuff is just a marketing gimic” (not that I don’t LOVE marketing gimics! haha)  The new girl who’s cutting my hair suggested it and I have to say, the ‘do is much softer than it used to be. Just a teeny dab worked thru the hair before blow drying…LOVE!

Finally, Airborne Chewables!  Have you ever tried to DRINK the disgusting regular Airborne? GAH! Maybe it’s because I have food issues in general but I do NOT like to have to drink large quantities of medicine type stuff. (like the kid’s liquid antibiotics?? OMFG! I would rather DIE than drink all that pink icky stuff!  Sarcasmo, boy after my own heart, CHOSE a shot in the butt rather than take 10 days of liquid amoxicillin!)  I’ve been fighting off a cold for a while now…it’s the Christmas-racing-around-hanging-out-in-malls-eating-crap-not-getting-enough-quality-sleep-and-being-around-snotty-kids cold. You know the one.  So, I saw the Airborne CHEWABLES and I’m hooked! Have been taking a couple of them a day (they taste like those orange flavored vitamin Cs) and I have NOT gotten sick yet! *knocks on wood*

New Nail Polish Shade

Oh boy. Exciting topic this morning, eh? lol  I wore tons of dark polish last winter…Lincoln Park After Dark, Siberian Nights, I’m With Brad (opaque metallic wine over dark coffee), etc. I liked it on my nails as well as on the toes. Felt ‘chic’. Well, as chic as *I* ever can be 😉 In the summer, I usually wear a bright pink like La Paz-itively Hot, which has been my summer fave for YEARS:But, the bright pink…just not feeling it this summer…too perky and cute…not black like my soul (haha)…so, have been experimenting. Didn’t want a super dark polish…I tried You Don’t Know Jacques (and I snickered and added the unsaid ‘Sheet” which goes with You Don’t Know Jacques Sheet, right?) which is a darker taupey color…not quite right.

Yesterday I got the hooves taken care of (but not the claws b/c the freaking face waxing took too long – again, Mom? Thanks for the furry genes)…chose Metro Chic (exclusively at Sephora aka Mecca)
It’s described as an “opaque dark smoke with a hint of purple”…it’s kinda perfect. It’s a deep shade but not DARK if that makes sense…and it’s NOT perky in any way.  More of a morbid shade?  Does that makes sense?  Thoughts?

On me, it’s not as gray as it appears in this pic. It’s got more of a purpley lilac thing going on next to my freckled Irish hide. (I won’t be photographing my horrible sausage toes for ya…You’re Welcome!)

Clairsonic Opal

Has anyone heard of this? I’ve heard of the skin cleaning ones but this one is for ANTI-AGING!

look at the adorable packing!!!!

It’s only available at Sephora…says it’s anti-aging and hydrating – especially for around the eyes!  I wonder how I could become a tester for this? It’s $250 and I know that’s not Frug-Approved. *ponders*

A Couple of Things I’m Happy About Today

First, I went to the Massage Express today at the mall.  It’s one of those $1 per minute walk-in massage places. Usually, I get a female masseuse and I get to be topless but sadly, not today.  But, even with my shirt on, 20 minutes being pummeled by the masseur was a terrific way to start my Tuesday. AND, as a bonus, they have an Early Bird Special – 20% off before noon!  So, I had a 20 minute massage for $16! Even the Frug has to appreciate that kind of bargain, right?!  The only questions I have are’why do they hate my shoulder blades so much?’ and ‘why do they seem to want to remove them from my body?’

The other thing I am happy about is that I am now a V.I.B at Sephora! A Very Important Beauty Insider!  The Frug will be annoyed that I became a VIB due to increased spending at Sephora…oh well!  Seriously, I have so few vices…no smoking, no drugs, not nearly enough drinking…buying make-up and other shallow crap is okay, right?!  So, as a perk, I got a 10% off coupon to use on any purchase, no minimum!  Thinking of getting Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation which I sampled today:

P238612_heroNo Foundation Foundation
What it is:

This formula includes antiaging actives, DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid, which help to firm skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles over time.

Products I am DIGGING and some I’m so NOT

I am loving my Bare Escentuals spf 30 Natural Sunscreen. It has fun packing w/the powder and brush all nicely contained in the tube.  You just twist and the brush fills w/just the right amount of product. I got the ‘light’ one and it is more of a medium, which is fine…it gives me a bit of color along w/spf 30!  What’s not to like?  I got mine at Ulta.com but it’s available at Mecca aka Sephora as well.

Last night before I met Tina for our girly date, I stopped at Ulta and picked up Urban Decay’s Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss. Am a lip gloss fanatic.  If it comes in a fun pink and has cute packaging, I am so IN. Have to say tho, I was a bit confused by this one…’pocket rocket’? Seems like a name for a vibrator!  (ahem…from what I hear, that is)  It’s packaging is nice and slim and would fit easily in a pocket w/out a weird lump…it also says:  “Rub the tube to release pheromones into the air—chemical signals that are undetectable by smell, but enhance mood and sexual attraction.”  Um, okay.  I’ll test out the pheromone part when the Hubs gets back.  I chose the color “David” (“James” was my back-up color choice) and it was a nice shade of pink but the flavor is not-so-good.  It’s described as ‘creme brulee’ which is an interesting choice for a lip gloss flavor 😉  A bit eeuuww.

Am just trying out the Cargo LashActivator Mascara (got mine at Sephora).  I want to try Latisse but a) it costs over $100 and b) it may or may not turn my blue eyes brown!  (am I dating myself too much if I recall Crystal Gayle’s ‘Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue’??  Yes, I guess I am!)  I just started using it so I can’t say yay or nay just yet.  So far, it goes on smoothly and is a nice ‘primer’…not that I have time or energy to add ‘lash primer’ to my non-existent routine!  So, if I don’t see some sort of results, it’s buh-bye!

And, lastly…

Am waiting anxiously for the release of the new DuWop Lip Venom V. Yes, that is V for VAMPIRE!  They say:

Lip Venom V is not your typical DuWop venom. Instead of a gloss, Lip Venom V is a shimmering crimson lip stain suspended in a venom-laced liquid lip conditioner with a super potent bite (watch out!), and contains argan, avocado, olive oils and vitamin E.

It can be pre-ordered at shop.duwop.com.  Just hoping Edward Cullen knows when my shipment arrives 😉
